Your Reel Got 100 "Link?" Comments. Now What?

The comments are not a problem to survive. Pinned word, one public reply, a rule that sends the link by DM, and the next wave answers itself.

The short answer

You posted the Reel Thursday evening. By Friday morning there are a hundred comments, and almost all of them say the same thing in different costumes: "link?", "where do I get it", "DM me the guide". You start opening profiles and sending links one by one, and twenty DMs in, new comments are arriving faster than you can answer them. Nobody told you what this hour was supposed to look like.

Here is the shape of it. You make the promise once, in public, where every future reader of the comments will see it. You set up a rule so the promise keeps itself. Then you go back to making things.

What to do in the first hour

Do not try to DM a hundred people by hand. You will miss some, send the same message a hundred times, and the Reel will keep collecting comments after you close the app. Two moves in the first hour do more than all of that.

First, comment on your own Reel and pin the comment. The pinned comment names the word and repeats the promise: "Comment PLAN and I'll DM you the free meal-plan PDF." It sits at the top of the pile, so person number one hundred and one sees the answer before they ask. One thing matters here: pin it only when the word actually works. If the rule is not live yet, the pinned comment is a promise with nothing behind it.

Second, reply publicly once, under one of the "link?" comments. Something short works: "Just sent it, check your DMs. Everyone else: comment PLAN and it comes to you." You are not answering that one person. You are answering the question in front of everyone who scrolls the comments, once, so you never have to type it again.

After those two moves, everything left in the pile is either handled by the rule or worth a human answer.

How do you set up the rule?

Say you are Priya, a fitness creator, and the Reel shows how you put together a week of meals. The promise is a free one-page meal-plan PDF. The word is PLAN. Here is the whole setup, start to finish.

Connect your Instagram account

ChatPanda connects to an Instagram Professional account, Business or Creator. It needs that connection to see the comments on your Reel and send DMs from you.

Choose the Reel that made the promise

Pick the exact Reel where the link questions are piling up. The rule then fires only under that post, so a stray "plan" somewhere else does not send a meal plan to the wrong person.

Name the word

Enter PLAN as the word. Now anyone who comments it under that Reel asks for the guide without you watching.

Write the DM

One line that says what it is and one link that opens the PDF. More on what that message should say below.

Decide on the public reply

ChatPanda can also reply under each comment with a line such as "Sent. Check your DMs." It helps people notice the DM, and it shows everyone scrolling that the promise is real. Turn it off if it feels like noise.

Once you have saved and enabled the rule, add the comment that tells people which word to use. If you want to try the flow yourself, comment the word from another account and open the link in the DM on your phone.

For more word ideas than you will ever need, the trigger-word guide has a whole list. The full setup, with every field explained, is in How to Automatically Reply to Instagram Comments With a DM.

What should the DM say?

The person already asked. The DM only has to deliver. Name what they commented for, give the link, stop. A short message lands better than a greeting, a story about your journey, and three links in one bubble.

Here is Priya's whole flow, from comment to delivery:

A fitness creator offers a free meal-plan PDF under her Reel. Marco comments PLAN. ChatPanda sends him the link in a private DM and can leave a public reply confirming it was sent.

Before you save anything, open the link yourself, on a phone, the way the commenter will. The PDF should open without a login, a redirect, or a hunt. If the page asks for an email address, say so on that page, because someone who commented for a PDF did not sign up for anything else.

When a reply comes back with a real question, "does this work without a gym", "can I swap the snacks", answer it yourself in the same chat. That is the part automation should never take from you, and it is usually where the actual conversation starts.

What if the offer changes or the link breaks?

It will, eventually. The PDF gets a second edition, the link moves, or you replace the meal plan with something new. The fix is one edit: open the rule, swap the link or the message, save. Every comment after that gets the new version, and every DM already sent keeps working as long as the destination page still exists.

Keep a short list of the Reels promoting each offer. When you retire a guide, you can update those captions and their messages instead of leaving an old Reel pointing at a missing page. If you want to see an updated message as a commenter would, try it from another account.

If you change the word as well as the link, edit the pinned comment on each Reel to match. The rule delivers; the pinned comment is what people read.

When does the demand deserve a landing page?

A single link can carry one offer for a long time. At some point the DM starts doing a job it was never meant to do, and the sign is simple: you want to say more than one link allows.

The practical difference: a DM link can point anywhere, so a simple page you control is already enough. Update that page and the rule never needs touching. The comment-to-DM part stays exactly the same either way. The comment still asks, the DM still delivers; only the destination gets room to grow.

What are the limits?

A hundred comments asking for the link is a good problem, and it needs less heroics than it feels like. Pin the word, let the rule carry the repeats, and save your replies for the people who asked something real.

Common questions

Should I reply to every "link?" comment by hand?

No. One public reply that names the word, plus a comment-to-DM rule, covers the repeated question for everyone who asks it after that. Spend your replies on the comments that carry a real question, such as what is inside the guide or whether it fits a specific situation.

What word should I tell people to comment?

Use the thing they are asking for. PLAN for a meal plan, GUIDE for a guide, CHECKLIST for a checklist. Pick one word per offer and keep it short enough to type in two seconds. Avoid a word that could mean something else, the way BOOK could mean a book.

Can I add the rule to a Reel that is already posted?

Yes, and a Reel that is picking up link questions right now is the best place to start. The offer already exists and the demand is already visible. Choose that Reel when you create the rule, so the word only fires under the post that made the promise.

How do I update the DM when my link changes?

Open the rule, replace the link in the message, and save. New matching comments use the updated message. If you want to see it as a commenter would, try the word from another account and open the link in the DM. Keep older destinations available for people opening a message you already sent.

Do I need a special type of Instagram account for this?

You need an Instagram Professional account. Either Business or Creator works, and most personal accounts can switch in the settings in a few minutes. ChatPanda connects to that account, watches the Reel you chose, and sends the DM you wrote when someone comments the word.
