How to Automatically Reply to Instagram Comments With a DM

Start with one post and one useful thing to send. The setup becomes much easier once the handoff is clear.

The short answer

The mechanism is short. The thinking happens before it: what are you promising, and would a real person be pleased to find it in their inbox?

If you first want the wider picture of how a comment becomes a private message, read how Instagram comment-to-DM automation works.

If your main question is where the link should go, learn how to send a clickable link after an Instagram comment. If you are unsure whether the account behind the post can connect, check the Instagram Professional account requirements.

What should the post promise?

A good first rule begins with a small, familiar moment. Maybe you have just posted a Reel about three ways to make a week of meals less chaotic. You have a five-day meal plan that would genuinely help, and you would rather send it than answer “link?” fifty times.

Write the public invitation and the first DM before you open ChatPanda. Seeing them next to each other reveals most bad setups immediately.

If the two lines do not sound like they belong together, fix the offer first. The software cannot make a vague promise feel clear.

How do you set it up?

Connect the account that owns the post

ChatPanda connects to Instagram Professional accounts, Business or Creator. It needs that connection so it can see the relevant comment and reply from the right account.

Choose the post with the offer

Start with one Reel or post. It keeps the promise, word, and destination tied together. Broader rules make sense later only when every post truly sends the same thing.

Pick a word people can understand

Use the thing they are asking for: PLAN, PRICE, CALENDAR, or WAITLIST. A short, meaningful word is easier to say in a Reel and easier to recognise later in the comments.

Write the message as the answer

Mention what they commented for, then give them the full link. The person should be able to open the DM on their phone and know exactly why it arrived.

Decide whether a public reply would help

ChatPanda can also reply under the comment with a line such as “Sent. Check your DMs.” Use it when an extra notification is useful. Skip it when the private message is enough.

What does the commenter see?

With the standard handoff, the DM arrives after the matching comment. For something you deliberately keep for followers, such as a template pack or ebook, ChatPanda can check whether the person follows you first. They receive a button, tap it, and the link goes out if they follow. If they do not, the message explains what to do next.

That extra step has a cost, so use it with care. It can make sense for a free resource that rewards following. It makes less sense for a booking page or product link, where the person has already told you they are ready to act.

What if the DM does not arrive?

Most missed handoffs come from a small mismatch rather than an Instagram mystery. If nothing arrives, check that the account is connected, the rule is active, and you are testing from a different Instagram account. If the wrong message arrives, look for two rules that use the same word on overlapping posts.

A button without the promised link usually means the followers-only option is on. Follow the account, wait a moment if you just followed, then tap the button again. If the DM arrives but the destination does not open, put the complete URL in the message rather than a partial address.

See it live or try it yourself

Want to see the flow before touching your own account? Visit @chatpanda_app, find a post that invites a keyword comment, and follow the prompt from a second Instagram account.

When you try your own rule, use a second account too. Comment the chosen word, open the DM on a phone, and ask one simple question: did it deliver exactly what the post promised? If it did, you have a handoff you can reuse.

Common questions

Can I use the same comment word on more than one post?

Yes, but only when both posts promise the same thing. Two live rules that share a word and point at different links will send whichever one fired first, and you will not be able to tell what the person actually wanted. If the offers differ, give each post its own word.

Does it matter whether someone types the word in capitals?

No. ChatPanda reads the word the same way whether somebody types plan or PLAN. Capitals in the examples are only there to make the word easy to spot in a caption or on a last slide. Write it however it reads best in your own post.

Can I change the message after people have started commenting?

Yes. Edit it whenever you like, and the next person who comments receives the new version. Messages already sent stay as they were. It is worth commenting the word from a second Instagram account after any change, so you read the new message the way a stranger will.

Do I need a paid plan to reply to comments automatically?

No. The free plan includes every feature, and each message it delivers ends with a short line saying it was sent with @chatpanda_app. Unlimited removes that line and changes nothing else, so you can run a real campaign before you decide whether the line bothers you.

Will ChatPanda message people who did not comment?

No. It only answers people who commented the word you chose or wrote to you first. There is no follower list to message and no broadcast. If you want to reach somebody who never commented, you write to them yourself, the ordinary way.
