How to Send a Clickable Link After an Instagram Comment
Someone comments because they want the thing you mentioned. Send the promised link in a private DM while that interest is still warm. Links work in DMs. They do not in comments.

The short answer
Give the comment somewhere to go
Imagine someone stops halfway through your Reel because they want the meal plan, the template, or the booking page you mentioned. They write “link?” underneath. You can reply with a URL, but Instagram leaves it as text. You can tell them to check your bio, but now they need to hunt for the right page.
A better post gives them one small next move: comment GUIDE, and get the guide
in a DM. They do not have to guess where the link went. You do not have to
notice the comment before they lose interest.
The point is not to turn every comment into a funnel. It is to keep one clear promise: if someone asks for this specific thing, send them that specific link.
How does the handoff work?
This is the whole journey your reader should understand before they set anything up. The post makes a promise. The comment asks for it. The private DM delivers it.
A creator asks people to comment GUIDE on a post. Sam comments GUIDE. ChatPanda sends a private DM with the promised lesson link. The DM is a reply to that comment, not an unsolicited message.
Sam sees the same promise twice: first in the post, then in the DM. That is why
the message feels useful rather than random. GUIDE is only an example. Use a
word that describes what they are getting, and remember that guide works too.
What do you need to decide first?
You do not need a complicated campaign before you start. Make these choices on paper first, then turn them into a rule.
- The thing you are offering. Pick one useful destination: a lesson, a rate card, a waitlist, a product page, or a booking page.
- The word people will comment. Use one short word that matches the offer.
GUIDEbeats a vagueMORE.RESERVATIONmakes more sense thanBOOKwhen you mean a calendar. - The sentence you will say in the post. Tell people exactly what to do and what arrives next: “Comment GUIDE and I’ll send the meal-plan lesson.” Put it in the caption, say it in the Reel, or make it the last slide of a carousel.
Once those three pieces agree, the rest is a short setup.
How do you set it up in ChatPanda?
Connect the Instagram account behind the post
Start with the Professional account that published the Reel or post. That keeps the comment, the DM, and the promised link in the same place.
Choose where the invitation lives
Pick one post or Reel when the offer belongs to that piece of content. Use the same setup across your posts only when the word and destination really stay the same.
Add the word people will comment
Use the word from your post. Keep it easy to type and easy to remember.
Someone who writes guide should get the same result as
someone who writes GUIDE.
Write the DM they were expecting
Name what they commented for, then give them the exact link you promised. You can also have ChatPanda leave a public reply under the comment, such as “Sent. Check your DMs.”
The default path is direct: they comment, then ChatPanda sends the DM. That is the right starting point for a shop URL, booking page, or anything you have already invited them to request.
How do you make the post and DM match?
The most common weak version of this flow is a vague post and a generic DM. A person comments because they saw one thing, then receives something that sounds like it came from another campaign.
Keep the language connected instead.
| In the post | In the DM |
|---|---|
| “Comment GUIDE and I’ll send the five-minute meal-plan lesson.” | “Thanks for commenting GUIDE. Here’s the meal-plan lesson:” |
| “Comment RESERVATION for Friday’s table link.” | “Here’s Friday’s reservation page:” |
| “Comment RATECARD and I’ll send my 2026 pricing.” | “Thanks for asking. Here’s the rate card:” |
The DM does not need to perform. It needs to arrive quickly, explain why it arrived, and give the person the link they asked for.
When should you use a follower check?
A free guide, ebook, or download can be worth reserving for people who follow you. ChatPanda has a followers-only option for that case.
The flow changes slightly. After they comment, they receive a message with a button. They tap it, ChatPanda checks whether they follow you, and then sends the promised link. If they do not follow yet, they can follow the account and tap again.
The DM arrives after they comment
Your message, straight away.
Only send if they follow you
A button first, then the link if they follow.
Use this for something they would not otherwise receive. Do not put a booking page or shop checkout behind the extra step. They already asked to buy or book; make that easy.
See it live, then try it yourself
Want to see the flow before setting up your own? Visit @chatpanda_app, open a post that asks people to comment a word, then comment that word and check your DMs. You will see the same handoff from public comment to private link.
When you are ready to try it with your own post, use a second Instagram account to comment the word, open the DM on a phone, and tap the link. You should see the same offer you put in the post.
After the automated DM, the conversation is still yours. If they ask a real question about the lesson, product, or booking, reply in that same Instagram chat.
What are the limits?
The simple version works well: make one honest offer, ask for one word, then send the link that person requested. If you want the wider picture before you set up a rule, see how Instagram comment-to-DM automation works.
Common questions
Will someone who does not follow me still get the link?
Yes. Anyone can comment on a public post, and ChatPanda answers whoever commented the word you chose. Following is not required unless you turn on the follower check for that rule, which is worth saving for a free resource you deliberately keep for followers.
Can I do this on a Reel as well as a normal post?
Yes. A Reel, a feed post and a carousel all work the same way, because the rule watches the comments underneath. Pick whichever piece of content carries the offer, then make sure the caption, the last slide, or the Reel itself names the word people should comment.
Can people tap the link inside the DM?
Yes, and that is the whole point of sending it privately. A web address written in a caption is plain text somebody has to copy out by hand. In a message it is one tap. Paste the complete address, starting with https, so it opens properly on a phone.
What if the person replies to the DM with a question?
Answer them yourself. The automatic message handles the first handoff, the part you would otherwise repeat fifty times. Anything after that is an ordinary Instagram conversation, so open your inbox and reply in your own words, the way you would to any other message.
Do I need a particular kind of Instagram account?
Yes, an Instagram Professional account, either Business or Creator. Both work the same way here. Instagram only lets an app help with comments and messages on a Professional account, and switching is a setting on your own profile rather than a new account you have to create.
